Chanel’s Spring Garden Couture Show is sure to brighten up your Friday morning. Spring definitely sprung at Chanel on Tuesday as Karl Lagerfield re-enacted Gardeners’ World in his latest couture extravaganza. It took a lengthy six months to create the 300 sugary paper flowers that decorated the set, forming the centrepiece at the Grand Palais. Two gardeners armed with watering theatrically splashed the faux foliage before the show began, as the flowers simultaneously burst into mechanical bloom.
Karl’s collection was all about flowers, as chiffon rosettes bloomed from full skirts, covered ruffles on dresses and sprouted from beanie hats. The house’s classic boucle suits came in a variety of light new rainbow weaves, but it was the modern fabric mixes styled into individual looks that felt the most fresh. Candyfloss organza layered over a waffle knit crop top – does it get any sweeter?
